Information Front End
- Web/WAP: Password protected, a web based summary of the counts for all
locations and background maintenance and status reports allows the customer
to gain access to the latest information, world-wide, on demand.
- E-mail: Reports of the latest counts can be sent out via
e-mail to the customer and any additional specified recipients on a
daily basis.
- SMS: Latest counts can be sent as text messages to mobile
phones on a daily basis giving the counts for the previous day, month
and the year to date.
- Fax: Counts can also be faxed to recipients on a daily,
weekly or monthly basis.

Data Management
- Data Acquisition: Regular, scheduled downloading of the
customers fish counters to a central database ensures that, should a
fault occur with a counter, loss of data communication or corrupt data
is rapidly be detected.
- Integration: Raw data generated by different types of
counters can be integrated into a single end-user format for the
customer. Where video verification of sites is performed, this
additional information can be incorporated.
- Archiving: Dual backup copies of all data can be stored
off-site. Should any fault occur with the primary database, secondary
sources of the data can then become available.
|
|
|
CCTV Verification
- Real-time: Verification of a counter performance can be
gauged using CCTV. Adjustments to the total count for a river can be
made once counter accuracy has been determined. Information generated
from validation work, carried out in real time, can become incorporated
into regular counter reports.
- Retrospective: Historical video footage can also be
reviewed to examine the past performance of a counter. The information
can be used to both demonstrate whether a system has been operating
consistently but also provides an opportunity to use apply a correction
factor on total counts generated for a river.

|
Maintenance
- Resistivity: General maintenance of resistivity counters
includes the collection of standard measures to ensures early
detection of faults should they arise. Where faults are identified,
preventative maintenance can be carried out to guarantee the
continuity of data.
- Infra-red: Regular checks of the counters infra-red panels
are required to ensure that fish are missed due to fouling or the
build-up of debris. Regular monitoring of flow rates, turbulence and
water turbidity allows for comparisons of counters performance under
different environmental conditions.
- Hydroacoustic: Maintenance includes regular transducer tests
using standard targets. As these units generally require a large
commitment to man-power, fault detection within the counters system
is usually continuous.

|
|
Software
- Counter Database Manager: Using LDM, data downloaded from
different counters can automatically be uploaded to a single
customer database. Summary reports of counts from all sites are
automatically generated, these can then be sent to a mail listing
for distribution by e-mail and fax. Additionally, web style documents
of standard reports can also be generated for web submission.
- Maintenance Manager: This database package allows the
customer to record all relevant information during a maintenance
visit. Summary reports can immediately be generated from the
database. This database additionally allows for the generation of
a historical maintenance record of individual sites.

|
Radiotracking
- Equipment Installation: Tracking studies of fish behavior can
be achieved with limited man-power by using remote listening stations at
strategic points along the river bank. Listening stations and power
supplies can be discretely deployed, serviced and have routine tests of
operational performance carried out.
- Active Tracking Studies: Detailed studies of individual fish
behavior can be determined using active tracking studies, either by
sub-sampling an individuals location at time intervals or by constant
monitoring. More recently, hydroacoustic systems have been developed to
allow detailed study of fish location in 3D.

|
|
Environmental Monitoring
- Installation: Monitoring equipment can be installed either
supplied with mains power or using solar panel / sealed acid batteries.
Units can be configured for remote access using either standard telephone
lines or GSM modems.
- Calibration: To ensure consistent operation of environmental
probes, each probe requires calibration tests on a regular basis.
- Data Management: Information can be retrieved from probes on
a regular basis. This data can be processed and delivered to a customers
specific requirements. Information can be made available in a range of
formats including on web-based sites.
