Coumshingaun Lough
Coumshingaun Lough is situated in the south of Ireland within the Comeragh
Mountain range. Historically this lake was the most southern known habitat for
Arctic Char in Ireland.

|
|
|
Lake Thermocline
In assessing available habitat for fish species, in addition to having detailed
bathymetry to determine the areas suitable for species, it is also important
to determine the physical environment in which the species resides.

|
Summer Refugia; Coumshingaun Lough
The deep water in this lake would provide an ideal habitat for Arctic Char.
During summer months, as surface water temperatures increase the deep
waters of this lake provide any resident char with a deep-water Refugia
that will typically be several degrees cooler than the lakes surface water.
